Description:

Group for fans of author J.R.R. Tolkien, his works, and the movies based upon his books.

C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien felt that children's books of their day did not teach children and real values, so they challenged each other to write children's books which would teach children courage, faith, honor and overcoming evil. The result was C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" series and J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" followed by the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Silmarillion."

If any of you guys live in Tennessee and love Lord of the Rings, we have a club on Yahoo groups that actually meets for parties, book readings, Renaissance festivals, etc.

Anyone else getting excited about "The Hobbit?" Anyone kind of wondering what the second movie will be about which is supposed to fill in the gap between "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings?"

C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien felt that children's books of their day did not teach children and real values, so they challenged each other to write a children's book which would teach children things about courage, faith, honor and overcoming evil. The result was C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" series and J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" followed by the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings."

Tolkien's books have become classics and have been read by millions around the world. In 1999 on December 19 (my birthday), the movie version of "The Fellowship of the Ring" premiered in theaters, followed by "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King."

Now "The Hobbit" is due out in 2010 and plans are in the makings for a Hollywood sequel "The Hobbit" to fill in the gaps between "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring." This is not as far-fetched as it sounds as Tolkien wrote countless notes, scribbles and books about "The History of Middle Earth," and some of the sequel information is actually contained in his writings. Some will be pure Hollywood invention, however, so we will just have to wait and see how it goes.

In the meantime, Christopher Tolkien has released the full book version of the tale of "The Children of Hurin." Hurin's story is also contained in the "Silmerillion" as well as in the "History of Middle Earth." Christopher took the shorter material from both books and filled in the gaps from some of his father's other notes and came up with a lengthier and more coherent version which was released a couple of years ago. Can we hope for a Hurin movie after "The Hobbit" and the sequel?

Come share your thoughts on the books and movies from J.R.R> Tolkien as well as information about his life.
