Tolkien felt that children's books of their day did not teach children and real values, so they challenged each other to write children's books which would teach children courage, faith, honor and overcoming evil. The result was C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" series and J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" followed by the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Silmarillion."</p>
